Poetic Medicine
Thursday, August 30th, 2012 by ericaIn June 2010, I was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. I had surgery to remove the lower lobe of my left lung. Chemotherapy followed. It was during the final phase of my treatment—radiation—when something completely unexpected happened.
While waiting in my radiologist’s office, I began daydreaming. In that gauzy, gossamer state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, I heard the directive. A powerful inner voice said, “You need to write a poem”.
Incredulous, I mentally argued: “About cancer? This does NOT feel very poetic!”
The voice answered immediately and emphatically, “YES, and it needs to be a haiku”. Then the haiku structure of 3 lines, 17 syllables–first line 5 syllables, second line 7 syllables, third line 5 syllables—broke through the surface of my thoughts like a whale emerging for air from the ocean’s depths.
I am not a poet, I told myself. But, amazingly, a simple poem quickly found its way to the scrap of paper I had been holding.
My radiologist arrived late and harried to our appointment. Still, I felt compelled to tell him that I had just written a poem about radiation; and I wanted to share to it with him. He rolled his eyes, glanced furtively at his watch, and submitted to my reading:
Radiation…ZAP!!
Search and find the mutant cells
Glowing…going…GONE!
When reading the last line of the haiku, my hands automatically raised and my fingers began wiggling like actors pantomiming the word “glowing”. Reciting the word, “going”, both arms moved from my head to their full-length extensions away from my body. A short pause, and then the word “GONE” propelled my hands together into a loud, crescendo-like CLAP.
Something powerful and unexplainable had just occurred.
After moments of stillness, the doctor finally spoke. Surprisingly, he wanted to know if I could make a copy of the poem, so he could share it with his other patients.
Later that day, I read my poem (hand gestures and all) to my husband. The haiku touched him as well; and he suggested that I challenge myself to write three daily. That suggestion proved life-altering.
Poem-making is now a part of my morning ritual, and their healing messages have become the impetus for writing a book, entitled: “A Poetic Journey through Cancer—Transforming Adversity into Creativity”
While writing these simple 3-line poems, I discovered a sacred container for pausing, reflecting and processing the fast-paced proliferation of events that had been set in motion by my cancer diagnosis, treatment, recovery and healing.
Recovering my own poetic voice—and helping others to find theirs through poem-making and creative writing—has been transformative.
Poetry and creative writing helps us to find personal meaning during the dark times, strengthens healing, and set free the unique song that is at the heart of every life.

The ANSWER is the Key!
Tuesday, August 28th, 2012 by ericaIf the question is “What are the keys to health?”, what would you expect the answer to be? As I created my list of health must-haves, the ANSWER figuratively hit me on the head! Chances are, you probably have not been incorporating all six of these in your daily routine. The following is a checklist you can use to check in with your body:
Air- Are you doing long, deep breathing? The kind that fills your lungs and spreads into your lower belly? If you are breathing shallowly, you are not oxygenating your cells properly. Sometimes I catch myself doing the shallow breathing, especially during times of stress. Your mitochondria (energy makers in your cells) need oxygen to produce fuel your cells can use. The deeper you breathe, the more oxygen your cells will get.
Nutrition- What do you feed your physical body? The best possible food you can, of course! Organic, pastured or grass fed, and wild options are best, but any step you can take is a good place to start. The less processed the food and the fewer chemicals used, the better it is for our health. If pesticides and antibiotics are used to kill bugs and “bugs”, how healthy could they possibly be for us?
Sun- Are you getting at least 15-20 minutes of sunlight directly onto your skin, with no sunscreen? If you use sunscreen, have you checked the Environmental Working Group’s website to see if your sunscreen is among the safest to use? That sunlight will help your body create its own vitamin D, which is a huge immune booster and a major factor in the prevention of chronic health conditions.
Water- Are you drinking enough throughout the day? How clean is it? Most of us aren’t drinking enough, and guess what, our bodies are at least 60% water. Herbal teas or water flavored with cucumber or pineapple slices will work towards your daily water intake, but caffeine of any kind will have more of a diuretic effect on the body and will make you even more dehydrated. Our thirst may be mistaken for hunger. Drinking water away from meals will also help our stomachs do the best job possible in breaking down our foods properly without diluting our stomach acids.
Earth- When was the last time you connected with your Mother? What this means is bare feet (or hands), touching rocks, dirt, grass, etc. The next time you are not feeling well, remove your shoes and socks and allow your feet to touch your Mother. Do some gardening and plant some herbs or flowers, using your hands directly in the the dirt. Allow the earth to pull toxins out of your body naturally.
Rest- Are you more of a human doing than a human being? How many hours of sleep are you getting? Do you have problems getting to sleep? Do you have problems staying asleep? Rest can mean sleep or a nap, but it can also mean relaxing with a furry or non-furry friend. Be kind to your body and give it a rest every once in a while!
The opposite of rest is crucial as well – exercise or movement is an important factor. Even if you aren’t going to the gym, are you moving every day? It could be as simple as weeding in your garden, or hiking along the many paths near the canyons, making love to your partner, or play-wrestling with a child. Playing is not mandatory but it sure makes getting movement into your day fun!

It Is Love After All, That Heals…..
Saturday, June 9th, 2012 by davidpAs “A Course in Miracles” suggests, I ascribe to the philosophy that all suffering arises from an error in thinking, perception or judgment. As soon as we change our perception, we change our direction. Sounds easy enough, right?
I once asked a well-known psychiatrist in Orange County what he learned from treating patients for 30 years. Without hesitation, he answered, “Change takes a long time!” If we are treating problems at the root, it doesn’t have to take a long time.
Mainstream healing modalities place an emphasis on finding out what is wrong with the patient. This creates separation. The practitioner relies on labels and definitions as well as their own analytical abilities to connect the negative condition to a proscribed “diagnosis and corresponding treatment.” The patient is made “wrong.” By default, the patient is instantly placed in an inferior position to the practitioner who is in the position of authority. The patient is prevailed upon to shift his/her power over to the practitioner. If the patient resists this power struggle (which is a natural inclination) the relationship becomes polarized until the patient relents. This is separation.
Frequently, I find in my work that the client was in fact right in their initial reaction and response. However, because they were unable to affect their circumstances, or were powerless to act differently at the time, their interpretation of the incident remains faulty. Because we are not taught how to handle emotions appropriately the initial erroneous thoughts and emotional reactions are suppressed and remain below the level of unconscious. This unconscious erroneous belief system surrounding this initial incident is what is still inhibiting them. We continue to accumulate subsequent experiences around the original experience (the layers of the onionskin) until crisis erupts or we become mentally and emotionally paralyzed.
Separation or “loss of self” is the primary reason why individuals seek counseling in the first place. When clients are assisted in repairing the “loss of self” including; the release of ego attachments, constructive emotional release, corrections in erroneous thinking and learning self-love, therapy is effective. It is love after all, that heals.
The “90 Minute Miracle”™ Technique works to heal the emotions, incorrect thoughts and perceptions that reside below the level of consciousness. We explore when, where and how these deeply buried and long forgotten ideas originated. We identify the belief systems and resulting patterns. We explore the positive and negative polarities in our subconscious belief systems and the impact that they are having on our lives. We release the accumulated negative thoughts and beliefs and replace them with new affirmations. Ultimately we learn how to create positive, life-affirming, new experiences upon which to build more rewarding, and satisfying relationships and successful endeavors.

Cancer: a survival solution part II
Wednesday, March 28th, 2012 by davidpCancer: a survival solution
A light in the dark on the origin and natural healing of cancer
PART II
I ended last week with the idea or fact that the only program that life runs is LIFE – and at the origin of life, at the cellular level, in the hard drive of our bio-computer, there is no death program whatsoever, only a life program. Acknowledging this fact, then it makes perfect sense that every physiological and cellular manifestations that our body expresses follows the Life program, the survival program, because all this body wants is to live. Not sure about it? If you cross the street without paying attention to a bus coming towards you, what will your body automatically do without thinking? Step back. That’s right. All our spontaneous reactions and behaviors are always executed in the name of survival, to protect ourselves from dying. That’s the intelligence of the cells, the biology. When the mind interferes in the functioning of our cells, that’s another story; that’s why today I just want to focus on the intelligence of the cells, the mind of the cells, as Satprem puts it.
Let’s go back to cancer. How can it be a survival solution, in other words, how can it be that the purpose of cancer is to keep us alive? Dr Hamer through the German New Medicine® brings a groundbreaking explanation to how it works. When facing a sudden unmanageable and stressful situation where we are unable to find a practical solution to resolve it, the brain will take charge in finding a biological solution for us, within our own body. Let’s illustrate with an example: if a person faces a situation when he is experiencing a fear of eminent death – like a man at the moment he receives a diagnosis of cancer. Just the word cancer itself is for most people in western countries synonymous of potential death. Since the brain cannot act on external factors (people, environment, etc.) but only on the body itself, it will find a solution to the conflict by activating the organ that carries the biological solution to the psycho-emotional shock. In other words, the notion of death and life is expressed in nature in terms of breathing or not breathing, being able to catch oxygen or not. At the moment of the shock, the brain will send a message to the part of the lungs, the alveoli in this case, in order to develop more cells able to catch oxygen. A cell multiplication starts, meaning tumors in the lungs start to develop. More cells are produced to be able to catch more oxygen, better breathing ability, a better chance to stay alive – see the logical here? Understand this well: the lung tumors in this case are here to improve the body’s breathing capacity – we are far from “they are here to kill you”.
The cell multiplication will continue its progression as long as the person remains in the fear of eminent death. Let’s say now that the person after a few weeks is proclaimed cancer free and the fear of death disappears. There is a law in nature that says that “what is useless is destroyed” because nature always works on saving energy. It’s like someone with multiple automobiles, why keep 3 cars when all that is really needed is one. For one thing It costs a lot to maintain the extra ones – and only one can be driven at a time! It’s basically the same truth in body nature, it takes extra energy to maintain extra cells. So once a challenging conflict is resolved, the body automatically readjusts to reach again its normal quota of cells. In the case we chose, the extra lung cells will be spontaneously destroyed without the need of any external intervention. If the person is “lucky” enough and still have TB-bacteria available in his body, the TB-bacteria will be activated in order to accelerate the decomposing of the tumors. The healing phase of lung cancer is lung tuberculosis. What? Well, this part will be developed in a future blog. But yes, what Antoine Bechamp discovered over a century ago, was confirmed by Dr Hamer: microbes are not the cause of disease; on the contrary, they assist the body in healing itself!
To conclude this introduction regarding the origin and spontaneous healing ability of cancer, you now understand that there is an unwavering intelligence behind it; that cancer does not develop randomly, uncontrollably. It needs an emotional shock, an event perceived as life-threatening by the brain in order for the cells to change their normal functioning. And, when the survival distress ends, the body automatically resumes its normal functioning – with no human, animal, plant, mineral, energetic or chemical intervention necessary. This is the genius behind the discoveries of Dr Hamer, who came up with a precise scientific system that demonstrates how the psyche-brain-organ connection works. In the era of “the cause of cancer is unknown” after billions of dollars spent yearly on research for the past 25 years, Dr Hamer had deciphered the mystery of the origin of cancer and its natural healing ability, 30 years ago! This is not because of an acidic body, or a fungus, or the wrong food, or the wrong genes, or the lack of vitamin X, it goes beyond all of this. His findings stem from the understanding of the plant, animal and human origin itself, and bring the missing piece that connects the dots in ALL medicines.
In addition to assisting people in healing the core issue of their health conditions, Biodecoding® leads people to get out of the fear of cancer – and any diseases in general. It brings a new foundation to make peace with disease and gain back your health independence. A priceless gift in times of emotional control through fear! Then, if you stopped fearing disease, what else more fulfilling other than worrying about your health would you spend your time, money and energy on?

Cancer: a survival solution
Sunday, March 18th, 2012 by davidpA light in the dark on the origin and natural healing of cancer
PART I
How can cancer be a solution for survival, when the scenario described by doctors and patients seems to show the opposite? If I can summarize it, cancer is usually described as a nasty cell that became an uncontrollable monster straight from a scary movie; it catches you, takes possession of your body and destroys you either quickly or slowly – either way in an atrocious manner like an invisible Freddy Krueger! And yes, the reality is that many people die from cancer in often terrible conditions and to add more to this already lugubrious picture, the statistics regarding cancer look terrifying as well.
As a trained naturopath for over 17 years, I have always heard during the course of the various trainings I completed, that nature was intelligent and logical. This belief is nowadays widely acknowledged within the alternative arena. Everything that I have learned so far on the functioning of the body and how to treat it naturally seemed logical. Although, I still had a question mark in the back of my mind: when it comes to cancer, how come suddenly everything becomes totally irrational and out of control? Nature’s intelligence suddenly fades away, how is it possible! The answer to that question was always the same: cancer is a phenomenon that does not follow the rules of nature, it is a mystery! I accepted this theory for many years, fearing cancer like the devil. My job during my first years of practice was to do anything to avoid cancer for myself and my clients. After all, that’s the unsaid but evident reason why people visit a health practitioner in the first place – to avoid dealing with the big scary monster at some point in their lives. We all want to die old and healthy, not in a horrible manner!
Finally a rational explanation about the origin of cancer came in my life in 1999 through Biodecoding®. I discovered that cancer was a perfectly normal intelligent and controlled phenomenon of nature. A light suddenly lit up a dark place in my reality. Although I didn’t understand all the implications of this affirmation at the time, just hearing this statement strongly resonated with me: “It could not be otherwise”. Without thinking any further, I immediately enrolled for a year-long training to learn more about what would change forever my perception regarding cancer and disease in general – they don’t come to kill us, on the contrary they come to save us! Let me explain…
By observing the way nature works, the way my own body and others’ bodies function, I realized that it takes a lot for this body to be destroyed. You can poison the body in many ways; through food, water, air and so forth. Even when exposed to the worst poisons that can possibly exist on earth, somehow the body manages to stay alive – It’s incredible! You give chemotherapy to a cancer patient, and he still survives it; especially when we know that the same cocktail given to a healthy person will make him sick as hell and eventually make him die! There is obviously a force of nature that restlessly persists to stay alive, to keep the body alive. The cells of the body want to stay alive no matter what. Over the years, I have learned and experienced through my own physical challenges that in fact, the only program that life runs is LIFE! At the origin of life, at the cellular level, in the hard drive of our bio-computer, there is no death program whatsoever, only a life program. That’s our cellular reality in the first place and the brain, the CEO of our body, applies this program dutifully 24/7. Come back next week for an exciting part II.

A Shamans Journey- by Isabella Stoloff
Saturday, September 25th, 2010 by JerryThere is a whole new generation of healers being awakened at this time. Young and old alike are seeking a path of enlightenment. We are realizing our old ways are no longer working and we are beginning to understand that our thoughts manifest into things. Now if we generate good feelings coupled with good thoughts we can make leaps and bounds in our lives and move forward from where we had been stuck in the past. We are finding we can visualize what we want and manifest it almost instantaneously. I have been practicing this and it truly works. The cleaner our energy bodies become the clearer we are to manifest what we desire.
When I was very young we were in the middle of the Vietnam War. My mother was very involved with “Another Mother for Peace. At a very young age I remember thinking, “I will make a difference in the world someday”. At one point I even wanted to be a teacher. Instead I became a hopeless drug addict. From 1972-1991 I escaped my pain by using drugs. I married very young, had children, and lived a crazy, insane life. Looking back now I realize I was unknowingly on a Shamanic journey. Everyday for 20 years I looked for a way out and could find none. I know now spirit had other plans for me, I was to become a healer, a Shaman.
Over ten years go I found out I have Hepatitis C. I had many friends who had under gone treatments, but I had Geno type 1 and there was only a 50/50 chance of recovery so I never did them. Last year before going to the Amazon jungle spirit told me to put myself on the waiting list for a test study program with Cedars Sinai Hospital. This year after returning from speaking in the Amazon at a conference I was accepted into that program.
I had always fought Western medicine. I felt holistic was the only way to go. I no longer feel that way. I know now there is a place for both in my world. I have a new found strength I plan to call upon during the next year. An inner strength coupled with a belief that I am divinely connected and never alone. The Hepatitis. C treatments can be rough, but I believe if I use my Shamanic training I will be able to use what I teach. My thoughts become things and how I feel coupled with the way I think will get me through this time. My plan is to continue writing and let all of you know how I am coping.
We are in an exciting time. A time of great change. You may be finding your whole world shifting. Do not be afraid. Step into this time with a new found confidence. It is time for us all to shine our light and spread our love. Everyday spend a few moments telling yourself you are magnificent. Know that we all have a purpose here. You are love, you are light, feel that in every cell of your being. Vibrate at the highest frequency possible, and shine.
