One Healer’s Experience

At April’s Psychic Faire, I set up a Listening Oasis booth.  To me, the word oasis connotes a stop for rest and reflection on a journey.  My intention was to give people a chance to experience being truly heard, during 15 minutes of deep, empathic listening as they shared what was meaningful and alive for them.  This kind of non-judgmental listening is the most important part of what I offer my clients as a Transformational Coach.

With each person who came to the Oasis, I energetically grounded in my stance of a lake, illustrated by the Lake trigram in the Yi Ching: two solid Yang lines topped by a broken Yin line.  This illustrates a rooted, stabilized base of strength balanced by a yielding surface.  It connotes special receptivity to spiritual and psychic influences along with a strong capacity for reflection and serenity.  There are few things I would rather spend a day doing than being a Lake!

Each time someone sat down to share with me, I felt gratitude for the opportunity we were co-creating – an opportunity to open up, increase awareness of what’s going on inside – both pleasant and unpleasant – and determine what to do with the insight gained. While each person had their own circumstances, I saw some things they all had in common – things that I, too, can relate to:

We all have burdens we want to unpack.  Everyone came in with something weighing on their heart.  They wasted no time in bringing it up and describing it in detail.  They had an understanding of their burden.  They knew exactly what it was -what it was made of, its shape, its size, its weight, its impact.

We all want to move forward unencumbered.  Everyone wanted to move beyond their burden.  Whether it was a burden of fear, of health challenges, financial concerns, relationship decisions or other things – once they had unpacked it and rested, they contemplated how to move forward.  They all could summon a clear and distinct vision of what it would be like to keep only what they need and move forward with more buoyant steps.

We all want to go further.  Everyone knew they could live more powerfully – in a way that more fully honored their gifts, skills and loves. They could envision what that would look like and feel like, and they had clear ideas of the way forward.

As you might imagine, having people share what’s alive for them was an invigorating experience for me!  I saw a sparkle in each eye.  I felt the thrill of hope.  I sat grounded to the earth with the grass beneath my feet and enjoyed the type of rest that only happens when we listen.  I hope to see you next time at the Oasis for some rest and reflection that may have a transformative effect on your day.
